| News-Archive 28th July 2003 12 o'clock: The First arrived!!!! Larissa, Anton, Viktor and Konstantin from Yekaterinburg were landed in Düsseldorf. Today they stay by friends in Wuppertal and they will come to the "Hardt" tomorrow. 28th July 2003 Klaus distributes Co-Rider Klaus Schneider-Ott coordinates the bikers, which will accompany the Global Friends along the Tour. The official website of the Northrhine-Westfalian tourism association at cologne (www.germany-tourism.de) advertizes the Global Friendship Tour. Not much info, and only in german:( 28th July 2003 Lenka and Martin had started. The adventure starts! Our slovakian friends Lenka and Martin had started from Kosice. In 26 hours they will arrive Wuppertal by train. Arrival at Central Station 10:41 a.m. Also the four from Yekaterinburg were "in the air"! In the next hours the participants from Beer Sheva and Matagalpa will check in at their airports. On this evening the friends from Legnica (by bus) and South Tyneside (by ferry and bus) will start. Only the three friends from Schwerin can stay a last night at home. All friends: Have a good journey! 28th July 2003 Official Reciept in Oer-Erkenschwick On the 2nd August at 9:00 a.m. in front of the town hall in Oer-Erkenschwick will be a receipt by the mayor of the town for the Global Friends. 28th July 2003 Official Delegation From Poland Welcomes Global Friends The delegation from the polish twin town Legnica, which stays now in Wuppertal for the 10th anniversary of the twin town friendschip, will stay a day longer to welcome the five polish participants of the Global Friendship Tour. 28th July 2003 T(our)-Shirts are present The T-Shirts with the sign of the Global-Friendship-Tour were supplied in many fashionable colours. Every participant get a shirt to wear it at the numerous official events during the next three weeks. 27th July 2003 North Tyneside Friends accompanies the Tour The twin town association "Oer-Erkenschwick - North Tyneside" will welcome the Global Friends. On Saturday the North Tyneside Friends will ride along with the caravan on the route to Münster till Lüdinghausen. 26th July 2003 Schwelmer Press reports The newspaper "Westfalenpost/Schwelm" reports in their issue of today under the Headline "Biking pensioner Edgar Hahn on Tour again" of the Global Friendship Tour and the three participants Heidi and Edgar Hahn and Horst Birka from Schwelm (neighbour town of Wuppertal) 25th July 2003 Function in the Teams / task distribution All of the 51 Global friens in the five teams (GREEN, BLUE, RED, PINK & YELLOW) get a task in their teams during the tour. The distribution is shown in the Global-Friendship-Task-Distribution-Plan. 25th July 2003 Delicious, Delicious! The legendary cult-snack-bar "Zum Guten Happen" (to the good bite) in Liebenwalde directly located at the europpean far-biking-route "Copenhagen-Berlin" AND at the Green Route "Wuppertal-Schwerin-Berlin" invite the Global friends for a snack-stop. 25th July 2003 Tower ascent earlier On Tuesday, the ascent of the "Bismarck"-tower with a "first look" on the twin town happens earlier for all Global Friends at 5:00 p.m. An hour later, at 6:00 p.m., the official Global-Friendship-Program starts at the ecumenical workshop at the "Hardt". 25th July 2003 Happy Birthday Franz! Franz Scholz from the municipal AGENDA-Bureau of Wuppertal, one "Motivators" of the Global-Friendship-Tour, celebrate his Birthday today. Raymond Günther has announced his participation at some events at the Global Friendship Meeting in Wuppertal. Raymond Günther is a representative of the Company ABUS from Wetter, which provides the tour with biking-helmets, bike-locks and chains. Welcome! 25th July 2003 Lime-tree is the Friendship-Tree Günther Wick, district leader from the municipal ressort for environement, green-spaces and forests had bought a young lime-tree. The Friendship-Tree will be planted ceremonial on the 30th July after the BBQ at the Hardt. 24th July 2003 Reciept at Zehdenick Great honour for the Global Friends: Mayor Witte will welcome the group at 12th August in Zehdenick. 24th July 2003 Romantic! The lunch break on the 11th August happens on the so called "Love-Island" of the castle Mirow. This indicates the really loveful detailed planning of the Route-Committee (Thanks to Anne, Bettina, Brigitte and Gerhard) 24th July 2003 Rumpenhorst in Heveney The mayor of Bochum Herman-Joseph Rumpenhorst will welcome the Global-Friends at their very first break (1st August - 12:30) at the reservoir Kemnade / port Heveney at the river Ruhr. On the continuing course of the first hop the alderman H. Sierau from Dortmund and the mayor of Waltrop, Willi Scheffers, will give the Group the honour of a meeting. 24th July 2003 Global-Friendship-Cup The often desired Europe-Cup of the National Champions was archetype for the Global-Friendship-Cup (GFC) which will handed out to the captain of the victorious Team after the final whistle of the Mega-Soccer-Event on the 3rd August (TuS Einigkeit Melle vs. Global-Friendship-Allstars). Should the match end in a draw, there will be no extension time or "golden-goal". The winner will be ascertained by a sausage-eating-bet, cherry-seed-long-spitting and a song-contest. An innovated rule interpretation - the FIFA-President had agreed explicit and benevolent. (Sorry for this bad translation, but it is difficult to find the correct terms for Michaels astonishing Ideas) 24th July 2003 Nowivok on top Ulrich Nowivok from the Agenda-21-Forum Berlin will wait for the Global Friends among other bikers on the gates of Berlin (13th August, 10:00 a.m., Schildow / church place), to ride together with the whole Group across the "Wall-bikeway" till the center of Berlin. 24th July 2003 Up and away 999 Global-Friendship-Tour-Balloons in all colours of the rainbow and with an imprint of the Global-Friendship-Tour-Logo have arrived in the meantime. 23rd July 2003 Safety by ABUS!! To secure the bikes on stops and breaks during the tour, the company ABUS bestows chains and locks for the bikes. Thanks! The first will been sent by gas-filled balloons in the sky on friday, 1st August at the starting of the tour. With this they will give the word "flyer" the real meaning. 23rd July 2003 Circle of Friends Jekaterinburg takes part! Eva Gothsch, chairwomen of the circle of friends of Jekaterinburg, will take part at the Global-Friendship-Party with some more members from the circle, among others Mr Albrecht Fischer von Mollard, who had substantially endeavoured for the participating of the russian Friends. 22th July 2003 WZ invites to riding with the team The local newspaper "Westdeutsche Zeitung - WZ" reports of the Global-Friendship-tour in the issue of today and invites all citizens to escort the Global Friends a little bit on the first hop and to say good-bye to the team. 22th July 2003 Global-Friendship-Banner Finished The Start-and-Destination-Welcome-Banner of the Global-Friendship-Tour is ready. From the 29th July it will decorate the front of the town hall in Wuppertal beside the flags of the participating nations. From the 1st August it will be in the luggage of the Global-Friendship-Team. 22th July 2003 press-date at Liebenwalde The newspaper "Oranienburger Generalanzeiger" intends to send out a photographer to the ferry at Liebenwalde to document the crossing of the Finow-canal by the Global-Friendship-Team on the 12th August at 2:05 p.m. 21st July 2003 "Hardt": Friendship-Tree will be planted The Global-Friends will plant a lime- or a maple-tree at the 30th July on the "Hardt". This Global-Friendship-Tree should remind for this unique Event, where people from the twin towns of Wuppertal out of 7 countries and from Wuppertal nearly three weeks joined in common doing. Might the Friendhip-tree and the friendship between nations grow well! 20th July 2003 Prof. Dr. Ziegler opens the Event The chief of the public relation office of Wuppertal, Prof. Dr. Ernst Ziegler, will open on the 29th July at 6:00 p.m. the Global-Fiendship-Meeting at the ecumenical workshop on the "Hardt". Prof. Dr. Ziegler is the driving force for the twin town interchange an the engine of the municipal foreign policy. 19th July 2003 Route-Group: Managed! At last Anne, Bettina, Brigitte and Gerhard had finished the official detailed map-sets for the Global-Fiendship-Tour in a six-hours-working-session. 18th July 2003 Henryk comes!!! Great news from Legnica! With Henryk Zelek from EKORAMA / Legnica a father of the movement of the green-routes through europe will take part at the Global-Friendship-Tour 2003. A great enrichment for the Global-Friends-Team! Henryk was co-organizer of the Zielona-Droga-Rides between Legnica and Wuppertal in 2000 and 2002. In the next weeks, he will will build up his condition for the big ride with a tour through Czechia. 18th July 2003 Visas are recieved! The russian participants have got their visas. Also they've got the flight tickets in their hands! We look forward for Larissa, Viktor, Anton and Konstantin from Jekaterinburg. 18th July 2003 Environemental-Chief opens Party Harald Bayer, municipal leader of the business division for "Environement, Green Spaces and Geo-Data" of Wuppertal, will open the Global-Friendship-Party at he cultural-centre "Färberei" at 31st July 2003. The municipal AGENDA-bureau is located in the business division of Harald Bayer. The AGENDA-bureau, in person the leader of the bureau Franz Scholz, was definitive responsible for the preparation and realisation of the Project. 18th July 2003 Escorted by ADFC The ADFC ("Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad Club") is the general bikers club of germany. Christoph Lemm, ADFC Tour-Guide from Wuppertal, give himself the honor to escort the Global-Friends on their first hop in the direction "Ruhrgebiet" on friday 1st August. Nice, isn't it? 18th July 2003 EKORAMA-Friends in Berlin!!! Now it is official: Chairman of EKORAMA Robert Pirecki with his wife, also the "Zielona-Droga-Activist" Janusz Hawryluk and Janina Lisowska (press spokeswomen of the city of Legnica) will come to Berlin to meet the Global-Friendship-Team at 15th August. We felt honored! Witamy at Berlin! 18th July 2003 Reception at Schwerin Participants of the european Youth-Meeting in Schwerin will ride a small part towards the Global-Friendship-Team at 8th August. This joyful news come to us by Antje Plotz, organizer of the event at Schwerin. From Holthusen ("in front of the gates" of our twin town from Mecklenburg) the ride goes on escorted by police to the Castle of Schwerin. 18th July 2003 Citizens on Move It is GREAT! More and more citizens from the locations at the tour and from the hops log on the Global-friendship-Tour-Phone to join us to escort the tour for a while. Actually there are appointments from Bad Oeynhausen and Bünde! 17th July 2003 Prof. Dr. Maser at "Farewell-Evening" in the cultural centre "Färberei" The chairman of the "Circle of Friends Legnica" Prof. Dr. Siegfried Maser and his wife are going to take part at the Global-Fiendship-Farewell-Party on 31st July. Both suporrted and escorted the "Zielona Droga Tour" of the Club GRÜNER WEG e.V. to Legnica (Poland) in 2000. 17th July 2003 Mueß: Trees for friendship between nations As reminder for the Global-Friendship-Tour the Global-Friends will plant nine "Life-Trees" (Arborvitae) together with the participants of the European Week of the Youth at the open-air grounds of the country boardingschool Mueß in Schwerin on the 9th August. Representative for the nine participating nations (Great Britain, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Turkey, Israel, Nicaragua, Germany) a small tree will be planted. 16th July 2003 Arrivals on Tuesday Lenka and Martin from Kosice/Slovakia will arrive at the Central Station in Wuppertal on the 29th July at 10:41 a.m. - via Praha / Nürnberg. The four polish friends will arrive already between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. thanks Henryk :) at the "Hardt". The seven cylists of the english twin town will been awaited around 2:00 p.m. 16th July 2003 River Elbe falls dry An extreme low level of the river Elbe impairs the ferries. If nothing changes in the next three weeks and the ferry near Hitzacker isn't operating, the Global-friendship-tour had to ride a small detour over a bridge across the river Elbe at 8th August. 16th July 2003 Balloons for Global-Friendship With a mass-starting of ballons in front of the town hall in Wuppertal, the Global-Friendship-Tour demonstrate the beginning of the ride. Also at the destination (13. August Berlin Brandenburg-Gate) 99-Balloons will climb the heaven over Berlin to send the message of the Global-Friends to the world. 16th July 2003 Escort desired! Welcome to the team, Annette! 12th July 2003 Farewell-party at UFA-Factory The final event of the Global-Friendship-Tour ("Global-Friendship-Farewell-Party") take place at the legendary UFA-factory Berlin on the evening of 15th July. Among other things a Variete-Show is on that night. Negotiations for an act by a well-known Rock-Band were running. 12th July 2003 Karin comes along Karin Diefenthal, pioneer of the "Zielona-Droga" from 2000, will drive the "Global-Friendship-Mobile". At the historic market in Rinteln, the tour had a rest till 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. The Mayor of Rinteln Karl-Heinz Buchholz will give the global-friends an official reception. Many thanks to Peter Keller from the municipal company for sports and baths, Mr Müller from the hall of the university and Harald Uhr from the town hall service! 10th July 2003 With Martina into Münster Martina Güttler from the planning agency of the town Münster will receipe the Global-Friendship-Expedition on the city border at 2nd August. According to schedule flight Moscow - Düsseldorf: 12:40 a.m. 10th July 2003 THE FIVE GLOBAL-FRIENDSHIP-DREAM-TEAMS The Groups of the 49 cyclists from Matagalpa (MAT), Jekaterinburg (JEK), Beer Sheva (BS), Legnica (LEG), Kosice (KOS), South Tyneside (ST), Schwerin (SCHW) and Wuppertal (W) were fixed. See the right column. 9th July 2003 GLOBAL-FRIENDSHIP-DRAGONS vs. EUROPEAN SHARKS At the 8th August adversaries to the "GLOBAL-FRIENDSHIP-DRAGONS" in the dragon-boat-race will be an international top-class composite crew from the CLUB EUROPA SCHWERIN e.V. with crewmen from Schwerin, Izmir (Turkey), Leeds (GB) and Tallin (Estonia). The start-shot will be given at 7:00 p.m. - The crew of each dragon-boat counts 20 persons - The distance were 250, 500 and 1000 meters. 9th July 2003 What does it mean, day off? Mr Brenz, cycle-commisary from the town Schwerin offers at the 9th August from 2:00 p.m. a small pretty cosy cycling round-trip around Schwerin (ca 20 km). The organisation team works on further activities for the afternoon, e.g. a Neptune-party at (and in) the lake Schwerin. 9th July 2003 Klaus Dieter on tour Klaus Dieter Blank goes on the road, escorted by the global-fiendship-dog "Peggy", to hang out posters in all hops on the route. So he advertises the project and animate people to take part on the activities along the route. Super Klau-Di! 9th July 2003 Help from the Circles of Friends Ms Maser (Circle of Friends Legnica), Ms Sparrer (Circle of Friends Matagalpa), Mr Fischer von Mollard (Circle of Friends Jekaterinburg) und Mr Prof. Dr. Werschinin (chairman of the society Russia-Germany / Jekaterinburg) ensured their support at the local preparation meeting of the participants of the project yesterday. Have a nice trip! 8th Juli 2003 Mr. Aschbrenner welcomes - Mr. Lang-Deichman says good bye At the town hall in Dannenberg the head of the administration of the county Lüchow-Dannenberg Dieter Aschbrenner will receive the global freinds at 7th August 5:30 p.m. Next day, the mayor of Hitzacker, Jochen Lang-Deichmann, will say good bye to the group. 7th July 2003 Freinds from Poland travel by train Ewa, Olga, Lukasz and Piotr, the polish participants of the global-fiendship-tour will arrive at 29th July 6:24 p.m. by train via Hamm at Wuppertal central station. 7th July 2003 All lissomely - Thank FASI! The participants of the global-freinship-meeting will take the first sight (often mostly decisive) on their twin town Wuppertal from the top of the Bismarck-tower. The tower will be opend exclusive for our twin town guests by the tower guards Karl Heinz Glöckner and Harald Müller at 29th July from 8:00 p.m. 6th July 2003 Posters were ready Fresh from the printing press 1.000 posters of the global-friendship-tour have arrived now. All over the republik (particularly in the twin towns) the posters will be distributed on the route. They should advertise the project and invite to take part at the local sections of the route. 6th July 2003 Schimmi invited Horst Szymaniak, born in Erkenschwick, nowadays living in Melle, Wuppertals first and (till today) only national kicker, participant of the world championship 1958 and 1962, professional for Inter Mailand - winner of the europe champions cup, is invited by the organisation team to be a guest of honor at the game of the year "TuS Einigkeit Melle vs. Global-Freindship-All-Star-Team". (3rd August at the stadium Waldstrasse in Melle). Possibly (and so we hope!!!) the unforgettable "Schimmi" will give the teams the honor for the kick off by himself. 5th July 2003 Lina in top form A two day single ride over 220 km was completed successfully by Lina Donath to her birthplace Goldhausen nearby Korbach/Hessen. Her ride traversed the ridges of Nordhelle, Ebbe-Mountains and the Highlands of south-westfalia. On this way, she trained for the great tour to Berlin. Respect, Lina! 4th July 2003 Magical: Don Martino at the old dye-house The global-fiendship-party at 31st July at the "Wuppertaler Färberei" (an old dye-house, nowadays culture centre) will be moderated by Martin Bang ("Don Martino"). Martin works as collaborator at the "NRW-Energie-Agentur", an agency for consulting. He is an Agenda-21-activist and since many years he sympathizes with the GRÜNEN WEG - by the way he is also a most gifted entertainer, juggler and magician(!). 4th July 2003 International Meeting in Schwerin During the stay at Schwerin (8th - 10th August) the global-friendship-team will meet the Youth-Delegations from Tallin (Estonia) and Leeds (Great Britain). Together with a dance-group from Turkey, which stayed at the same time in Schwerin, there will be arranged a common evening at the 9th August. 4th July 2003 Wuppertal: Don't forget! Next tuesday (8th July) at 6:00 p.m. in the town hall Barmen (room 260) is the fixed preparation meeting for Wuppertaler participants. Also welcome are the representatives and activists of the circles of friends and partnership associations. 4th July 2003 Great support by Anne and Christian!! Anne Stone and Christian Morhenn have agreed to squire the cyclists as escort-crew on the ca 900 km global-friendship-tour and to support the project in many respects. President of the association is Mr Sunderbrink. Inowroclaw (Kujawien / Poland) is also twin town of Bad Oeynhausen like Fismes (France) and Wear Valley District (England). 3rd July 2003 Lord Mayor of Waltrop visit the route Willi Scheffers, Lord Mayor of Waltrop will give honor to the global-friendship-team, too. He will welcome the 50 Cyclist on 1st August at 6:00 p.m. at the famous Henrichenburg lift-lock. By the way, one of the twin towns of Waltrop is San Miguelito in Nicaragua. 3rd July 2003 Global-friendship-tour-leaflet has arrived! The 16 pages counting GLOBAL-FRIENDSHIP-LEAFLET with the greeting messages of the minister of environment Jürgen Trittin and lord mayor Dr. Hans Kremendahl, the official tour-program including a detailed timetable and plan of the route, informations of all twin towns of Wuppertal and many other facts around the global-friendship-event was published today! All participants, the circle of friends and partner associations as well as all partners in the towns on the route will get the Leaflet in the next days. The Lord Mayor himself will give the start shot for the global-friensdship-tour on the town hall place at 1st August. 28 days left til start! 2nd July 2003 German-British Friends come to Bövinghausen Fabulous! The German-British-Club from Holzwickede meet in Dortmund-Bövinghausen the global-friendship-team and will escort for a while the 50 cyclists on the green route. At the 1st August (visiting the "Zeche Zollern II") also the Lord Mayor of Dortmund will meet the Team. She will give the 54 cyclists from Wuppertal and the 8 twin towns from 7 countries a good farewell. 1st July 2003 Soccer-Fever in Melle - Stadium "Waldstrasse" most convenient The stadium will be the stage of the soccer-match "TuS Einigkeit Melle vs. Global Friendship Team" in the evening of the 3rd August. The match is also known as the "Game of the Year". The stadium on the Waldstrasse in Melle fulfills all official guidelines of the FIFA and the UEFA. This is the result of an inspection of the stadium and the top-level discussion between the managers of the teams (Gerd Hodermann and Günter Eser from TuS Einigkeit Melle plus Wolfgang Mohrhenn and Michael Lutz from Global-Friendship-Team). After the bankrupt of "Kirch-Media" there would be no TV-Live-Reporting on EUROSPORT/DSF/SAT/RTL, so the organizers count on a full house. The preparations for the following banquet meal and the "players-night" have started already. 1st July 2003 Hope for St.Etienne There is hope for participants from the twin town St.Etienne. She will be the first women from Wuppertal, who has visited all twin towns in europe by bike. Lina has take part at the green-route-expeditions in 1999 (South Tyneside), 2000 (Legnica), 2001 (St.Etienne) and 2002 (Kosice). At the 1st August she will be one of 60 participants which will start the journey via Schwerin to Berlin. 24th June 2003 GEPA takes care for food and drink! The society for the funding of partnership with the third world (GEPA) supports the global-friendship-tour with marching rations!
