GLOBAL FRIENDSHIP TOUR - The Idea

The Global Friendship Project brings together all of Wuppertal's twin towns: South Tyneside (GB), St. Etienne (F), Beer Sheva (ISR), Kosice (SL), Legnica (PL), Matagalpa (NIC) and Jekatarinburg (RUS) as well as Schwerin and Berlin-Schöneberg (D). In August
2003, there will be an international bike ride from Wuppertal to Berlin to promote twin-town cycling and global friendship. It is being organized by "Der Grüne Weg e.V." and the City of Wuppertal and held as a contribution to the process of European unification and worldwide understanding between people from
different countries.

A 3-day
Global Friendship Meeting, a twin-town environmental conference from 29th to 31st July, will
be the opening event in Wuppertal with a varied programme of activities, lectures, workshops and excursions.

On 1 st August all of the participants (50-70 persons) will meet in front of Wuppertal's town hall to set off on
a 13-day cycle ride to Berlin. There will be many sights to see and interesting projects to visit. Environmentalists and town twinning activists from different places along the route will join the group and
ride along.

Berlin will be reached on 13th August. The tour will
finish on August 16th.
